One of the most noticeable differences between digital video and film is the depth of field. Digital video cameras have a larger depth of field keeping everything from foreground to the background in focus, while film cameras generally provide a shallow(er) depth of field resulting in focus around your subject and a blurred image elsewhere. Having the ability to shoot with a shallow depth of field can add depth to your footage and help it look more like film.
